(817) 533-0943Most homeowners pay $100 to $250 per fixture installed for low-voltage landscape lighting, plus $200 to $500 for a transformer if one isn’t already in place. A typical front-yard package of 8 to 10 fixtures, including the transformer, usually lands between $1,200 and $3,000. Larger or more detailed layouts cost more.
Typical landscape lighting costs
| Item | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Low-voltage LED fixture, installed (per fixture) | $100 – $250 |
| Low-voltage transformer, installed | $200 – $500 |
| Typical front-yard package (8-10 fixtures + transformer) | $1,200 – $3,000 |
These are typical ranges, not a quote. The real price depends on how many fixtures you want, how far they are from a power source, and whether trenching or existing landscaping adds labor. Neighbors Electric gives you an upfront flat-rate price after seeing the yard.
Line-voltage vs. low-voltage: what’s the difference?
Low-voltage systems run fixtures at 12 volts through a transformer that steps down your home’s 120-volt power. That’s what most residential landscape lighting uses: it’s safer to work around, cheaper to install, and easy to reposition fixtures later without hiring an electrician for every change. Line-voltage lighting runs at full household voltage and needs code-rated direct-burial cable or conduit at proper depth, which costs more to install and is harder to modify once it’s in the ground. For most front and back yards, low-voltage covers the job; line-voltage tends to show up for larger security or architectural lighting needs.
The outdoor outlet still needs GFCI protection
Even though the fixtures themselves run on low voltage, the outdoor outlet the transformer plugs into has to be GFCI-protected. The National Electrical Code requires GFCI protection on outdoor outlets at dwellings, and inspectors check for it. If your home doesn’t already have a GFCI-protected outdoor outlet near where the transformer needs to sit, that’s a small additional item your electrician will account for. See our answer on where GFCI outlets are required for the full list of locations.
Landscape lighting is one of the more affordable ways to add curb appeal and nighttime safety around a home, and the low-voltage side of the job is straightforward for a licensed electrician to wire correctly the first time. Neighbors Electric installs landscape and outdoor lighting throughout Fort Worth with an upfront flat-rate quote — call (817) 533-0943 or see our outdoor lighting installation page to get a plan for your yard.
