(817) 533-0943Good outdoor lighting does two things at once: it makes your property safer after dark and it makes it look better every night of the year. Neighbors Electric installs landscape lighting, security floodlights, and accent lighting for homes and businesses across Fort Worth and the surrounding DFW area, all wired the way it should be — on properly sized circuits, with the right fixtures for a wet location, and protected by GFCI where the code requires it.
What Outdoor Lighting Installation Covers
Outdoor lighting isn’t one job, it’s a handful of related ones. We handle:
- Landscape and path lighting — low-voltage fixtures along walkways, flower beds, and driveways for both safety and curb appeal.
- Accent and uplighting — fixtures aimed at trees, architectural features, or a stone facade to give the property depth at night.
- Security and flood lighting — line-voltage floodlights at entries, garages, and dark corners of the yard, often paired with motion sensors.
- Soffit and eave lighting — downlights mounted along the eaves for even, low-glare illumination around the perimeter of the house.
- Patio and deck lighting — post-cap lights, step lights, and string-light circuits built for outdoor use.
- Outdoor outlets and GFCI circuits — dedicated, weather-rated circuits to power the lighting and anything else you plug in outside. See our GFCI outlet installation page for how that protection works.
How We Do It
Most landscape and path lighting runs on a low-voltage system: a transformer steps household voltage down to 12V, then feeds a run of cable to individual fixtures. We size the transformer for the actual fixture load, not a guess, and we bury or route the low-voltage cable so it isn’t a tripping hazard or a lawnmower casualty. Every fixture we install outdoors is rated for wet or damp locations — that rating matters, because a fixture built for indoor use will corrode and fail fast once it’s exposed to Texas weather.
Line-voltage work, like security floodlights and any outdoor receptacle, gets its own dedicated circuit sized for the load, protected by GFCI at the outlet or breaker. That protection isn’t optional on exterior circuits, and it isn’t just a code checkbox either — it’s the difference between a nuisance trip and a real hazard when water gets into a connection. We also handle the controls: photocells that trigger lights at dusk, timers for a consistent on/off schedule, motion sensors for security lighting, and smart switches if you want to run everything from your phone.
If your panel is already near capacity, adding several new outdoor circuits may mean it’s time to look at a panel upgrade before we add load. We’ll tell you honestly if that’s the case rather than overloading what’s already there.
Why a Licensed Electrician Matters Here
Outdoor electrical work sits at the intersection of two things that don’t forgive mistakes: water and current. A fixture wired without proper grounding, a splice that isn’t rated for burial, or a circuit without GFCI protection can turn a landscape lighting project into a shock hazard the first time it rains. Neighbors Electric is licensed under Texas Electrical Contractor License #41555, and we pull permits and schedule inspections on work that requires it. That’s not extra red tape — it’s a second set of eyes confirming the work was done correctly, which matters most on circuits that live outside, exposed to weather, for years.
We also think about the whole system, not just the fixtures. A lighting plan that ties into your existing outdoor outlets, your interior light fixture wiring, and your panel capacity holds up better long-term than a piecemeal add-on. If part of your project calls for switching or dimming controls inside the house too, we can fold that into the same visit.
Honest Pricing, No Surprises
We quote outdoor lighting jobs with flat-rate pricing before we start — you know the number going in, and it doesn’t change because the job took an extra hour. No inflated “diagnostic” fees, no upsell pressure. Whether you need a single set of security floodlights or a full landscape lighting system across the front and back of the property, we’ll walk the site with you, talk through what you actually want lit and why, and give you a straight answer on what it costs.
