Johnson County · TECL #41555
Licensed electricians serving Venus
Venus sits on the Johnson and Ellis County line in northeastern Johnson County, about 23 miles from our shop in Crowley. US-67 runs north-south right through the center of town, leading northeast about 7.5 miles to Midlothian and west 7 miles back to Alvarado, which puts Venus solidly inside the stretch of the county we already cover. We’re TECL #41555, licensed to do electrical work anywhere in Texas, and Venus calls are treated the same as anywhere else on our route, not an exception because the town happens to straddle two counties.
Neighbors Electric is a licensed electrical contractor (TECL #41555) based in Crowley, serving Venus and the rest of DFW.

Homes in Venus
A Town That Emptied Out and Is Filling Back In
Venus has an unusual history for a town this size. Originally called Gossip before being renamed in the late 1880s, it had two banks and two hardware stores at its peak in the 1920s before the Great Depression cut the population down to around 200 by 1940. The downtown area was even used as a filming location for Bonnie and Clyde in 1967, back when the town was still mostly quiet. That’s changed fast: Venus has grown from about 4,361 residents at the 2020 census to an estimated 8,870 today, driven by the same southward expansion pushing growth through Godley and other Johnson County towns.
That growth curve means Venus has a genuine split in its housing stock. There are homes and buildings left from Venus’s earlier decades, some going back to when the town was a small farming community, sitting alongside new subdivisions built in just the last few years to handle the population surge. The older homes tend to need the same things older homes anywhere need: panels that were adequate decades ago but not now, and wiring that’s been patched rather than properly updated. The newer construction usually has modern wiring but often needs additions as families settle in, from a dedicated EV circuit to added capacity for a home office or a shop.
Venus ISD has grown right along with the population, and a lot of the new families moving in are coming from farther into the metroplex, drawn by more space and lower prices than they’d find closer to Dallas or Fort Worth. That means more acreage lots on the edges of town than you’d see in a straightforward suburb, with the same rural considerations as anywhere else in the county: a shop or barn that needs its own circuit, a well pump that can’t go without backup power for long, and service runs that need to be sized for the property as it’s actually used, not just the house that sits on it. It’s a very different downtown than the one that shows up briefly in that 1967 film, but the US-67 corridor through the center of town is still the spine the rest of Venus is built around.

Why a Nearby Licensed Electrician Matters
A town straddling two counties can create confusion about permitting and jurisdiction, but that’s exactly where it helps to work with an electrician who already knows the area rather than sorting it out for the first time on your job. A 23-mile drive from Crowley keeps Venus well inside our regular coverage, and knowing the mix of older and newer housing here means fewer surprises once we’re inside a panel. TECL #41555 is our state license, and it’s what makes the work legitimate and accountable no matter which side of the county line a property sits on. If you’ve ever had a contractor tell you they can’t take a job because of which county you’re in, that’s not a problem you’ll run into with us. We treat Venus as one town, not two half-jurisdictions to sort out before we can help.
A Flat Rate, No Matter Which County You’re In
We give you a flat price for the job before starting, and that number doesn’t move because of which county line your property happens to be near or how far the drive was from Crowley. If we find something additional once we’re into the wiring, we tell you and get your approval before doing more than what was quoted. That’s the whole promise: one honest price, told to you upfront.
If you’re in Venus and need a panel upgraded, wiring repaired, or a generator installed, call (817) 533-0943 or reach out through our contact page. We cover northeastern Johnson County as a normal part of our route out of Crowley.
