(817) 533-0943A remodel is usually the moment old electrical work stops hiding. You open a wall in a 1970s Fort Worth kitchen and find two-prong outlets on one circuit that also feeds the hallway lights. You add a bathroom and realize the panel has no room left for it. Remodel electrical work is not just running a few new wires — it is fitting new code requirements and new load onto a system that was built for a different house. Neighbors Electric works alongside homeowners and general contractors on kitchen, bath, and addition remodels across Fort Worth and DFW.
What Remodel Electrical Work Involves
Every remodel is different, but the electrical scope tends to fall into a few recurring categories:
- New and dedicated circuits. Kitchens need small-appliance circuits for countertop outlets, plus dedicated circuits for the range, dishwasher, and microwave. Bathrooms need their own circuit. An addition needs its own run back to the panel, sized for what will actually be in the room.
- Moving and adding outlets and switches. Remodels move walls, move islands, and move where people actually stand to use a switch. That means relocating existing devices and adding new ones, not just patching what was already there.
- Recessed and under-cabinet lighting. Kitchen and bath remodels are where most homeowners finally get the lighting layout they actually wanted, can lights over the island, under-cabinet strips for task lighting, a dimmer where there was one switch before.
- GFCI and AFCI protection. Current code requires GFCI protection in kitchens, bathrooms, and near any water source, and AFCI protection in most living spaces. A remodel is exactly when this gets brought up to code, whether or not the rest of the house has it yet.
- Panel capacity. Added circuits mean added load. If your panel is already full or outdated, a remodel is often the point where it needs to be addressed rather than deferred again.
- Code updates the remodel triggers. Depending on the scope, opening up a kitchen or bath can trigger requirements that were not there when the house was built. We flag what applies before the work starts, not after the inspector does.
How We Work With Your Remodel
We start with a walkthrough of the space and the plan, whether that is a homeowner’s sketch or a general contractor’s drawings. From there we lay out circuits, outlet and switch locations, and lighting before anyone opens a wall, so the rough-in matches what the finished room actually needs. If your existing panel does not have the capacity or the breaker space for what the remodel requires, we will say so early, not after drywall is up.
Remodel electrical work in Fort Worth requires a permit and inspection, and we build that into the schedule rather than treating it as an afterthought. If we are working under a general contractor, we coordinate around their timeline and their other trades; if you are managing the remodel yourself, we walk you through what the electrical portion needs and when.
Common additions on a remodel job include recessed lighting installation, dedicated circuit installation for new appliances, and GFCI outlet installation for kitchens and baths. If the panel needs more room to carry the new load, that is an electrical panel upgrade, and we will tell you plainly if your remodel needs one.
Why the License Matters on a Remodel
Remodel wiring gets closed up behind drywall, tile, and cabinetry, which means mistakes do not get caught until something fails or an inspection is called. An unlicensed shortcut on a dedicated circuit or a missing AFCI can pass unnoticed for years and then show up as a tripped breaker, a warm outlet, or worse. Neighbors Electric is licensed under Texas Electrical Contractor License #41555. We pull the permit, we build to what the inspector will actually check, and we do not leave a remodel with electrical work that is technically hidden but not technically right.
A Flat Rate Before the Walls Open
We give you a flat rate based on the actual scope of your remodel, not a number that creeps once the drywall comes down and we find something else. If you are still in the planning stage and want to know what the electrical side of your remodel will realistically involve, that conversation costs nothing.
Call (817) 533-0943 or request a quote online to talk through your remodel, whether it is a single bathroom or a full kitchen and addition. We are also available to coordinate directly with your general contractor’s schedule.
