(817) 533-0943North Richland Hills is a short drive from our Crowley base up through Fort Worth, and it’s a city we’re in regularly — it’s one of the established mid-cities suburbs in Tarrant County, sitting between Fort Worth and the Dallas side of the Metroplex. It’s a mature suburb, which means a lot of the homes we see here were built decades ago, and that shapes how an EV charger install actually goes more than people expect.
What a proper Level 2 install involves
An EV charger needs a dedicated 240V circuit of its own — whether that’s a NEMA 14-50 outlet or a hardwired connection straight to the charger, depending on the unit. Before we run anything, we do a load calculation to confirm your panel can actually carry the extra draw on top of your existing HVAC, water heater, and everything else pulling from it. That number is what determines the wire gauge and breaker size we install, and it’s the step that gets skipped by anyone quoting a job sight unseen or over the phone. Once the circuit is designed, we pull the required City of North Richland Hills electrical permit and schedule an inspection — that’s what makes the work count if you ever need to show it to an insurance adjuster or a buyer’s inspector.
The local angle: mature homes, older panels
Because North Richland Hills built out earlier than some of the newer growth areas farther south and west in Tarrant County, we run into more original 100-amp panels here than we do in newer subdivisions. A panel that age was never designed with a 40 or 50-amp EV circuit in mind, especially once it’s already carrying central air, an electric range, and whatever else has been added to the house over the years. That doesn’t mean every North Richland Hills home needs work before a charger goes in — plenty have already been updated — but it’s common enough that we check the panel first and tell you honestly if a panel upgrade needs to happen before the charger circuit does. Better to know that before we quote a number than after we’ve started pulling wire.
Garages in this part of the mid-cities also tend to be smaller than what you’d find in newer construction farther out, which affects where the charger can realistically be mounted relative to the parking spot and the panel. Some homes here have had a detached garage or a converted carport added over the years, which means the charger circuit has to run outside the main structure rather than a short indoor pull. We look at the actual layout before quoting, because a 40-year-old garage doesn’t always match up with what a newer EV charger install assumes about wall space and routing.
Why the license matters on a circuit like this
Neighbors Electric holds Texas Electrical Contractor License #41555. On an older panel especially, that license is what stands between a safe install and a 240V circuit that’s improperly sized or tied into a panel that shouldn’t be carrying it. Licensed work means the load calculation happens, the permit gets pulled, and the inspection is part of the job, not an afterthought. If your home has flickering lights, a panel that still uses fuses, or outlets that run warm, that’s worth mentioning — it may point to a wiring repair that should get addressed before we add a heavy new circuit on top of an aging system.
This is also where a licensed load calculation earns its keep on an older mid-cities panel. It’s not enough to eyeball the breaker slots and see an open spot — an open slot doesn’t mean there’s open capacity. The calculation accounts for every major appliance already drawing from that panel, and it’s the only reliable way to know whether a 100-amp service from the 1970s or 80s can take on a new 40 or 50-amp continuous load without derating something else in the house.

We quote the EV charger install as a flat rate once we’ve actually seen your panel, not a guess made over the phone.
