(817) 533-0943Mansfield sits southeast of our Crowley base, close enough that it’s a short, regular trip for our crews — not a special-case job. Most of the city is in Tarrant County, with small slivers reaching into Johnson and Ellis counties, and it’s one of the faster-growing areas we work in. New subdivisions have been going up in Mansfield for years, which means a lot of the EV charger calls we get here come from garages that are only a few years old.
What goes into a Level 2 EV charger install
Regardless of how new or old the house is, the process is the same. An EV charger needs a dedicated 240V circuit — run either to a NEMA 14-50 outlet or hardwired straight to the charger unit, depending on what you’ve bought. Before we run that circuit, we do a load calculation against your existing panel to confirm it can handle the additional draw alongside your AC, water heater, and everything else already on it. That number determines the wire gauge and breaker size, and it’s not a step we skip to move faster. Once the circuit is designed and run, we pull the City of Mansfield electrical permit and get it inspected, which is what protects you down the line if you ever sell the house or file an insurance claim tied to that circuit.
The local angle: newer Mansfield builds usually have the room
Because so much of Mansfield’s growth is recent, most of the homes we work on here have newer panels with reasonable capacity — the load calculation usually comes back favorable, and panel upgrades are less common than they are in older parts of Fort Worth. What we run into instead is garage layout: newer subdivisions often put the panel on an exterior wall that isn’t near where the owner parks, or the garage is deep enough that the charger run has to cross the ceiling or go around finished space. We check the actual routing on site before quoting, since a straightforward panel doesn’t always mean a straightforward run. If your subdivision is older or your panel has already been loaded up with a pool pump, workshop, or shop equipment, a panel upgrade may still be part of the conversation.
We also see a fair number of Mansfield homeowners who added a pool, an outdoor kitchen, or a home office over the years and never went back to check what that did to their panel’s total load. A charger is usually one of the bigger single additions a homeowner puts on a residential circuit, and it’s worth confirming there’s still headroom rather than assuming a newer build automatically has it. That’s exactly what the load calculation is for, and it’s a step we run every time, not just on older homes.
Why the license matters
Neighbors Electric carries Texas Electrical Contractor License #41555. A 240V circuit that’s undersized or installed without a permit isn’t something you want to find out about later — either through a tripped breaker under load or, worse, a failed inspection when you go to sell. Licensed work means the load calc gets run, the permit gets pulled, and the inspection happens before we consider the job done. If you’ve noticed flickering lights or an outlet that runs warm elsewhere in the house, mention it when we’re out — it may be worth a look as a separate wiring repair before we add a new heavy-draw circuit.
We also make sure the breaker itself is rated for continuous EV charging loads, not just sized to the wire. EV charging is a sustained draw for hours at a time, which is different from most household circuits that cycle on and off. A breaker that’s technically “big enough” on paper can still be the wrong choice if it’s not built to run continuously near its rated capacity, and that’s a detail that only shows up when someone licensed is actually doing the sizing.
Flat-rate, straight answer
We quote the install after we’ve looked at your panel and your garage in person, as a flat rate — not a number that changes once the work has started. Mansfield is part of our regular Fort Worth and DFW EV charger installation coverage, and our Mansfield electrician page has the rest of what we handle in the area.
