(817) 533-0943Irving is a longer drive for us than most of our service area — Neighbors Electric is based in Crowley, on the south side of Fort Worth, and Irving sits over in Dallas County on the far east edge of the Metroplex. We won’t pretend it’s around the corner. But we cover EV charger installation across Irving as part of our regular DFW service area, and the job itself doesn’t change because of the drive: dedicated circuit, correct load calculation, permit, inspection.
What goes into a proper Level 2 install
Every EV charger install starts the same way, whether it’s a NEMA 14-50 outlet or a hardwired unit: the charger needs its own dedicated 240V circuit, sized to a load calculation we run against your existing panel. That calculation tells us what your panel can actually support once the charger’s draw is added to your air conditioning, your water heater, and everything else already on it. From there we size the wire and breaker to match, run the circuit, and pull the required City of Irving electrical permit before the work is signed off with an inspection. Skipping the load calc to save a trip is how you end up with a breaker that trips every time the AC and the charger run at once.
The local angle: Irving’s mixed housing stock changes the job
Irving is split between older neighborhoods built in the 1960s and 70s and newer construction, particularly around Las Colinas. That split matters for an EV charger install more than in most cities. Older Irving homes often still have their original panel — sometimes 100-amp service, sometimes older breaker or fuse panels that were never designed to carry a 40 or 50-amp EV circuit on top of everything else in the house. In those cases, a panel upgrade usually has to happen before the charger goes in, and we’ll tell you that up front rather than trying to force a circuit onto a panel that can’t take it. Newer construction in and around Las Colinas tends to have more headroom and larger service, which makes for a more straightforward install — still needs the load calc, but the outcome is more predictable.
Garage layout matters too. A lot of the older 60s and 70s housing stock in Irving has a single-car or carport garage, sometimes with the panel mounted outside near the meter rather than inside the garage itself. That changes the routing for the charger circuit, and it’s the kind of detail that gets missed on a phone quote. Newer Las Colinas-area townhomes and condos can bring a different wrinkle: shared walls, HOA rules about exterior equipment, and garages that are smaller and more tightly built out than a typical single-family home. We walk the actual space before quoting a number, because “run a wire from the panel to the garage” means something different depending on which part of Irving you’re in.
Why licensed work matters on a circuit this size
Neighbors Electric holds Texas Electrical Contractor License #41555, and on a 240V EV circuit that’s the difference between a job that’s done right and one that’s a fire risk waiting behind your garage wall. Licensed work means the permit gets pulled, the inspection happens, and the load calculation isn’t skipped. If your Irving home has older wiring — two-prong outlets, a panel that still uses fuses, warm switch plates — that’s worth flagging when we come out, because it may point to a wiring repair that needs handling before we add a heavy new circuit to the system.
None of this gets rushed just because we drove further to get there. A load calculation on an older panel takes the same amount of care in Irving as it does five minutes from our shop in Crowley, and a permit inspector in Dallas County holds the work to the same code as one in Tarrant County. The distance changes our scheduling, not our standards.
Honest pricing on a longer trip
Because Irving is further from our Crowley base than most of the cities we serve, we’re upfront that scheduling may take a bit more coordination than a job closer to home — but the quote is still a flat rate based on what we actually find at your panel, not a number that changes once we’re on site. If your home needs a panel upgrade first, we’ll say so before we start, not after. Irving falls under our broader Fort Worth and DFW-area EV charger installation coverage, and you can see everything else we handle for Irving homes on our Irving electrician page.
Call (817) 533-0943 or use our contact page to get a crew scheduled to look at your panel before we quote the job.
