(817) 533-0943Neighbors Electric runs out of Crowley and serves Colleyville as a regular part of our Tarrant County work. Colleyville sits in the northeastern part of the county, covers about 13 square miles, and is one of the more affluent communities in the DFW metroplex — large lots, custom-built homes, and, often, more than one vehicle to charge. That combination tends to push EV charger jobs here toward bigger panels and longer wire runs than a standard subdivision install.
What a Proper Level 2 Install Actually Involves
Every Level 2 charger needs its own dedicated 240-volt circuit, wired either hardwired to the unit or into a NEMA 14-50 outlet, with nothing else sharing that breaker. Before we touch a wire, we run a load calculation on the panel: HVAC, water heater, and anything else already drawing power, checked against what the new charger circuit will add. That number is what decides whether the panel can take it as-is or needs an upgrade first — it’s not a step we skip to move faster.
From there we size the wire gauge to match the breaker and the run length, set the correct breaker, and terminate the circuit. The job gets a City of Colleyville electrical permit and a final inspection before we call it finished. Both are part of the job, not an add-on.
The Colleyville Angle: Larger Lots, More Load to Plan Around
Colleyville’s custom homes are often on lots big enough that the garage sits well away from the main panel, which means longer circuit runs and, in some cases, a small subpanel in the garage makes more sense than one long run of heavy-gauge copper back to the house. These homes also tend to already be carrying a substantial load — multiple HVAC systems, outdoor living circuits, sometimes a second structure — so the load calculation before the charger goes in is doing real work here, not just checking a box. Where a panel is already close to its limit, the right move is a panel upgrade before the charger circuit, and we’ll tell you that plainly instead of forcing a circuit onto a panel that can’t take it.
A lot of Colleyville households have more than one electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle, which means a single charger location isn’t always the end of the project. If you’re planning for a second charger down the road, it’s worth telling us up front — we can size the panel work and, where it makes sense, the wiring to accommodate a second circuit later without redoing everything from scratch.
Detached garages and separate shop or barn structures are common enough on larger Colleyville lots that the charger circuit sometimes has to run underground from the house to a secondary structure. That’s a different scope of work than a standard attached-garage install — it involves conduit, trenching, and its own permit considerations — and it’s something we plan for specifically rather than treating as a standard job.
Why the Licensed, Permitted Version Matters
Neighbors Electric holds Texas Electrical Contractor License TECL #41555. On a Colleyville property with a large panel already carrying a lot of load, that license is what stands between a charger circuit that’s sized correctly and one that causes nuisance trips or overloads the panel. We pull the Colleyville permit, run the load calculation properly, size the wire and breaker to match, and schedule the inspection on every job.
That paperwork matters at resale, too. A properly permitted 240-volt circuit shows up clean in city records; an unpermitted one is the kind of thing a buyer’s inspector flags, and it’s a far more expensive fix after the fact than doing it correctly the first time.
Flat-Rate Pricing, No Surprises
We give you a flat-rate price after seeing your actual panel and garage layout, not a phone quote that grows once we’re on site. If a panel upgrade or some wiring repair needs to happen first, we’ll price it separately and explain why. Call (817) 533-0943 or request a quote online.
